Pike Road

A young town southeast of Montgomery with its own school system and a fall arts fair that dates to 1966.

Living in Pike Road

Pike Road is in northeastern Montgomery County, about 12 miles southeast of downtown Montgomery by way of Troy Highway, U.S. 82 and 231, with the city of Montgomery bordering it to the north. Residents voted to incorporate in 1997, and the town counted 9,439 residents in the 2020 census.

The name comes from the area's old toll road: travelers paid a fee, or "pike," to use it. By the mid-1800s a farming community had grown up where the Pike and Meriwether roads met.

The Pike Road Arts and Crafts Fair has been held on the first Saturday in November since 1966, on the grounds of the Marks House, an 1820s home on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage. It draws as many as 10,000 people. Summer Fest brings live music, food and fireworks every July 4.

Schools

Pike Road runs its own city school system, Pike Road Schools. Its first school opened in 2015, and Pike Road High School was established in 2018.
